Ingredients

  • 1 lb ziti pasta
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 4 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook ziti according to package, drain.

    Brown Italian sausage, breaking into crumbles. Drain fat.

    Mix sausage with marinara sauce.

    In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, half the mozzarella, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

    Spread 1 cup meat sauce in a 9x13 baking dish.

    Layer half the pasta, half the ricotta mixture, and half the remaining meat sauce.

    Repeat layers. Top with remaining mozzarella and parmesan.

    Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes.

    Remove foil and bake 15-20 more minutes until bubbly.

    Let rest 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil.
